Date: 04/27/09 (Monday)
Location: Cumae, Campi Flegrei and Benevento, Campania Region, Italy

Back in full health, we decided to rent a car for the weekend to do some final exploring inland before our departure from Gaeta.  The Campi Flegrei (Flegrean Fields) near Naples continued to exert a strong pull on us, and since it is actually easier to leave the boat here to visit there, off we went on Friday.

David wanted to visit Cumae (also known as Cuma), the first Greek settlement on the mainland of Italy, Lisa wanted to see the crater lakes and more of the amazing volcanic landscape, and we both wanted to stock-up on some of our favorite wines from this area: falanghina (white) and piedirosso (red).

On Saturday, we doubled-back to Benevento in Campania with our friend Jayne of Aorangi for a little food and wine road trip and a much-needed break from spring boat projects.
