Log Book while at Home Port in Annapolis, Maryland

Arriving just before Thanksgiving 2005, Gyatso and crew spent just over a month at her home port in Annapolis while we finished moving aboard and organizing matters related to our home and work.  The highlight of our time in Annapolis was a Tibetan ceremony to name and bless the boat.  We also continued re-fitting the boat for the journey south.

Log Book Entries

Monday, 11/21/05--Arrived in Annapolis at Port Annapolis Marina on Back Creek at 3:45 pm and docked in slip F44 in cold, rainy conditions.

Thursday, 11/24/05--We feasted on Thanksgiving dinner with family and friends at our cousin's house in Annapolis.  David made his favorite mince pie at our house and brought a Riesling and a Pinot Noir to add to the collection of Will's pies, drink and wonderful food, including Muffin's friend Sue's sweat potato and spinach casseroles.

Monday-Saturday, 11/28-12/10/05--New 12 volt marine refrigeration system installed by Chuck and Rick at Helton Marine Refrigeration to replace the old shore-power and engine-driven systems.  New battery charger also installed.  Diane at Alamo Custom Yacht Canvas made and installed new cushions for the master stateroom.

Tuesday, 12/6/05--We celebrated granddaughter Morgan's second birthday with dinner and cake with Andi and Alex at their house.

Sunday, 12/11/05--Tibetan monks performed a naming ceremony and gave blessings for a safe journey.  The traditional Tibetan ceremony was performed by Geshe Nawang Kalsang and Geshe Yishey Chendo, the senior monks at the JaLing Tibetan Buddhist Cultural Center, in Baltimore.  We had 21 people join us in the ceremony which included Tibetan chants and feasting on meat and vegetarian "Momos" (Tibetan dumplings), cookies, tea and cider.

Tuesday, 12/12/05--We moved back onboard and began final packing and preparations to rent out our house while we are away.

Tuesday - Thursday, 12/20-12/22/05--Cousin Will installed beautiful new counters in the galley.  He also worked with Lisa to remove two old water strainers, one on the water intake for the engine and the other for the bilge.  Will then installed a new seawater strainer, bilge strainer and all new hoses.  Thanks to our "Cuz" all major systems are now "go" for departure!

Sunday, 12/25/05--We enjoyed a quiet and delicious Christmas dinner with cousins Muffin and Will at their house along with Andi and Morgan.  Lisa made butternut squash casserole and brought a selection of red zinfandels to go with the meal.

Saturday, 12/31/05--We attended the New Year's Eve celebration at City Dock in Annapolis.  Scottish bagpipers and fireworks rang in 2006.

Friday, 1/6/06--Departed Annapolis (see Annapolis to Florida via the ICW).
