Year 2 (2005)
Leg 5 - Lake Huron and North Channel
David

Little Current. Lisa visited here twice as a child on family
cruising trips to the North Channel. Although she was only three and
five at the time, many of the sites seemed familiar.

Leg 6 - Lake Michigan and Beaver Island
We
had some of our best sailing on the way to and from Beaver Island.

Betsy, sister Suze and sister-in-law Jill aboard About Time for an
afternoon sail.
Mom
and Dad Borre take the helm outside the harbor on Beaver Island.
We
took a break from the boat for 10 days and stayed with Suze &
Jon. This is the view from their side porch of Paradise Bay (St.
James Harbor).
The
welcome dinner for the "Beaver Cousin" Reunion was an elaborate
meal at Suze & Jon's featuring antipasto, salad, grilled whitefish
marinated in herbs, cornbread, and apple tart.
Lisa's
siblings posed together in their old dinghy, the Suzy Q. The
waterline is noticeably lower than it was when they were kids.

About
Time is the only pleasure boat among the traditional fishing boats at
Whitefish Point Harbor of Refuge. The entrance was silted in, and
although the lake is the deepest of the five, this was not the only time
that we were glad for our shoal draft vessel.
Lisa
documents our arrival at Whitefish Point after an exciting passage from
the St. Mary's River (see log).
The
beach was posted as private property -- a recent topic of legal battles in
Michigan -- we chose the interpretation that the shoreline is in the
public trust and took a walk anyway. This sign went as far as
requesting that you not collect rocks.
